My name is Jacob Lagendyk and I got inspired to name my startup company “Barefoot Engineer” by a book with a similar title I came across in the Exclusive bookstore of Melrose Arch. This book was written by a dutch architect who’s mission it was to uplift the poverty stricken locals of South America by teaching and helping them build shelters with on-hand tools and materials. I liked this book because of its illustrations and short descriptions of methods to make these homes not only comfortable, but utilizing the climate and forces of nature to harvest free renewable energy to be used productively.
Being barefoot is a humbling experience. It is a connection with mother earth. It is connecting with others, serving others like Jesus did when he washed his disciples’ feet. I would like to do just that – hoping that I can enrich others lives with the experience and help I can give.
